Where Graphics Meet Art

In-Shreds

“In-Shreds” are works centring around my process of exploring my inner-self; my identity and the meanings in my life, given the dangerous planet we now inhabit. This process has sometime felt like destruction, but ultimately deconstruction, with pivotal moments of discovery and new perspectives.  Creating ‘gaps’ in the initial paintings, cutting them up and re-ordering them were powerful techniques for me to access deeper thoughts and feelings.  Comfort came from the chaos, understanding from the unique images emerging, emotions from the spontaneous palette: not so much a representation but a felt experience.

My strong connection with Scotland began eight years ago. During this time, I've undertaken art projects exploring themes such as cultural identity and immigration amongst others.
I am continually exploring different aspects of these issues through my art, which often involves senses of connection and diversity.

Lost in Two Cities

‘Lost in Two Cities’ is a snapshot in time and place through felt experience; melding present and past, west and east, sensory and imagined. My sense of identity constantly floats through the narrow old streets of Edinburgh and Beirut.

Cities can reveal themselves spontaneously by the turn of a corner or a chance glimpse upward. Or insidiously, by hidden poverty behind busy thoroughfares or a sense of despair and violence in a dark alleyway. Cities are memories and emotions and experiences that we carry with us, often unrecognised. Corners often turned, glimpses upward for no apparent reason. Until we become found or lost again.
